Step 1: Download the EA File
After purchasing or downloading an Expert Advisor, you will receive a .ex5 file. Save this file to a location you can easily find, such as your Desktop or Downloads folder.
Step 2: Open MetaTrader 5 Data Folder
In MetaTrader 5, go to File > Open Data Folder. This opens the directory where MT5 stores all its files. Navigate to MQL5 > Experts folder.
Step 3: Copy the EA File
Copy your .ex5 file into the MQL5/Experts folder. If the EA comes with additional files (libraries, presets), copy those to their respective folders (MQL5/Libraries, MQL5/Presets).
Step 4: Restart MetaTrader 5
Close and reopen MetaTrader 5, or right-click in the Navigator panel and select Refresh. Your new EA should now appear in the Navigator under Expert Advisors.
Step 5: Attach EA to a Chart
Drag the EA from the Navigator onto a chart of the desired currency pair and timeframe. In the settings dialog, enable 'Allow automated trading', configure the input parameters, and click OK.
Step 6: Enable Auto Trading
Click the 'AutoTrading' button in the MT5 toolbar (it should turn green). The EA is now active and will trade according to its programmed strategy.
