Out-of-Sample Test

Definition

An out-of-sample test runs a finalised, parameter-frozen strategy against historical data the developer did not use during tuning. The performance gap between in-sample and out-of-sample results quantifies how much of the backtest edge is real versus an artefact of curve-fitting.
