Trading forex carries substantial risk of loss, and any Expert Advisor — including ours — can produce losing periods. Drawdowns are a normal part of every strategy on every market. If your live account suffers losses beyond your tolerance, pause the EA, do not chase the loss with bigger lot sizes, and review what changed before reactivating. FxRobotEasy cannot reimburse trading losses; the license refund policy covers software purchase only.

How do I apply a .set file to my robot?

Most professional automated traders risk 0.5–1.5% of account equity per trade. Risk-per-trade is the dollar amount you will lose if your stop-loss is hit, expressed as a percentage of equity. Manual closure before the event is the safer choice if you are unsure whether the filter is active.

Latency under 20 ms is the target for scalpers; under 100 ms is fine for trend EAs.

Slippage is the difference between the price you requested and the price your trade actually filled at. It happens when liquidity is thin or the market moves between your order arrival at the broker and its execution. For scalpers it can erase the entire edge if it averages more than 1 pip per trade. The simpler and more reliable option is to skip the local Mac install and rent a Windows VPS — same result, much fewer surprises.

Why isn't my EA placing trades?

Five common causes: (1) AutoTrading button is off (red, not green) — click it in the toolbar. (2) The EA's smiley face on the chart is sad — re-attach and confirm "Allow Algorithmic Trading" in the inputs dialog. (3) The market is closed. (4) The EA's time filter excludes the current hour. My EA shows a sad face icon — what does that mean?

The sad face icon means the EA is loaded but not allowed to trade. Right-click the chart, choose Expert Advisors → Properties, switch to the Common tab, and tick "Allow Algorithmic Trading". Confirm by clicking OK. The face should switch to smiling within a few seconds. If it stays sad, the global AutoTrading button in the toolbar is also off.

The EA is closing trades too early — why?

Most likely causes: (1) the trailing-stop input is too tight relative to current volatility, (2) the time filter is closing positions at a session boundary, (3) the news filter is closing before a scheduled event. Check the Experts log for the exit reason (`SL`, `TP`, `Trailing`, `TimeExit`, `NewsExit`). Adjust the relevant input in your .set file or load a more conservative preset.

Why do my live results differ from the backtest?

Three usual suspects: (1) broker spread — backtest used historical spread, your broker's live spread is higher; (2) slippage on stops — not modelled in the standard Strategy Tester; (3) execution model — backtest assumes instant fills, live execution has latency. Plus, the backtest may have been over-fit to a specific period the EA was tuned on.

Why does my MT5 keep disconnecting from the broker?

Three common causes: (1) unstable home internet — switch to a VPS; (2) broker server maintenance — usually weekends; (3) firewall or antivirus blocking MT5 outbound connections — whitelist `terminal64.exe`. Persistent disconnects from a VPS usually indicate a routing problem between the VPS provider and the broker server — open a ticket with the VPS provider.

I'm getting a "no money" or "not enough margin" error — why?

Accepted Answer

The EA is trying to open a position larger than your free margin allows. Either your account is too small for the EA's configured risk per trade, or another open position is locking up margin. Reduce the EA's `RiskPercent` (or `LotSize`) input, close other positions, or top up the account. Most EAs default to assuming the entire account is available — multi-EA setups need lower per-EA risk.

My P&L looks weird — wins and losses don't match the EA's stats. Why?

Most often this is a broker-side issue: (1) commission booked separately from trade P&L making each trade look smaller, (2) swap (overnight financing) accumulating on multi-day positions, (3) the broker rebated negative swap, or (4) a position was modified manually. Check the History tab — every trade has a full P&L breakdown by line item.

How do I check the EA's log?

Open the Toolbox panel at the bottom of MT5 (Ctrl+T if hidden). Switch to the "Experts" tab to see runtime messages from all attached EAs (entries, exits, rejected setups, errors). The adjacent "Journal" tab shows MT5 itself (connections, account changes). Log files also persist on disk under MQL5/Logs in the data folder.
