Vendor states whether the indicator repaints on the active candle. Repainting indicators that hide that fact in marketing fail this gate. Honest repainters labelled correctly are ranked on signal quality.
Documented behaviour across timeframes (M5, H1, H4). Indicators tuned only for one timeframe with no MTF guidance are excluded from MT5 rankings.
Vendor publishes false-positive rate or signal-success rate on a published instrument list. Indicators without any quantitative claim fail this gate.

Volume analysis in forex carries an important caveat: spot forex is decentralized and has no true volume data — MT5 platforms display tick volume (number of price updates) rather than actual trading volume. Tick volume serves as a proxy for actual volume but with structural limitations. This ranking covers MT5 volume indicators honestly, distinguishing between useful tick-volume analysis and methodology that requires actual volume data unavailable in retail forex.

**The forex volume caveat**
Spot forex is decentralized across thousands of liquidity providers — no central exchange aggregates true trading volume. MT5 displays 'tick volume' which counts price updates rather than actual lots traded. Tick volume correlates with actual volume on liquid pairs during active sessions but diverges significantly during low-liquidity periods (Asian session, holidays). Volume indicators on MT5 work with this proxy data, not true exchange volume. Approaches like VWAP that require true volume are approximations rather than exchange-quality data.

**Common volume indicator failure modes**
Four patterns. First, indicators treating tick volume as true volume without acknowledging the limitation. Second, indicators using volume thresholds calibrated for equity markets that don't transfer to forex tick volume. Third, indicators without session-aware filtering — tick volume varies materially across sessions. Fourth, indicators marketing volume-based predictions that exceed what proxy volume data supports.
**Practical volume usage in forex**
Four rules. (1) Treat tick volume as a proxy, not as true volume — directional accuracy matters, absolute values less so. (2) Compare volume across similar sessions — tick volume during London-NY overlap is the most reliable proxy. (3) Use volume as confirmation, not as standalone signal — volume confirms price moves; volume alone doesn't predict direction. (4) Consider broker variance — different brokers show different tick volume for the same instrument because tick rate depends on broker's price feed.

Every product passes four editorial gates — disclosed strategy logic, verified developer profile, documented risk discipline, and active maintenance pipeline — before it appears in any ranking. Products from inactive developers (no community activity in 90+ days) or with closed-source 'AI black box' strategies are excluded regardless of their published returns. Rankings are reviewed at least quarterly with interim updates when featured products ship new versions, when developer activity status changes, or when market regime shifts test strategy fitness. Each entry shows its individual last-reviewed date. The cron job at /api/cron/seo-auto-refresh flags rankings older than 90 days for re-review.
